Event Description:
If there is one common thread among the nation’s employers, it is the need to have qualified, competent and responsible employees.  If you are one of the individuals that have said, “I just don’t understand these kids.  They don’t know how to work.  They are pampered and lazy.  Then, you are probably talking about the Millennials.  Millennials are the 54 million adult Americans aged between 18 and 34 in 2015 and now make up one third of the American workforce, the largest generation at work.  So what does this mean for employers? Certainly, it’s better to directly address the needs and understand the characteristics of the millennial generation than to pretend they don’t exist.

Join us for an in depth look at the generational differences in the workforce and learn specific strategies to make your workplace more productive.  The seminar will be led by Dr. Amy Chasteen Miller.  Dr. Miller is a Professor of Sociology and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at U.S.M.   Dr. Miller conducts research on student success, retention, and student engagement, with a particular focus on the experiences of diverse “millennials” in higher education.  This is such a fascinating subject that affects all of us in one way or another.

Topics to be covered will include:

— Understanding the millennial mindset — a deeper dive into the priorities, motivations, and background “ecosystem” of the millennials
— Managing a multigenerational workplace — what are the generations at work today, and how are they different? How do you get people to work across generational lines in productive ways?
— Recruiting and retaining a millennial workforce — what are some strategies for on-boarding millennials to increase the chances they will be successful contributors to the workplace? How can work with their skills and help develop professionalization and leadership skills?

Limited space is available.  Please register by Monday, March 27 to reserve your spot.
